Menchville Introduces the Tabletop Gaming Club

Are you a fan of adventure games? Wizards? Dragons? Magical quests and medieval stories? Then Menchville’s new gaming club is the place for you!

Junior Tori Rimes is a passionate Dungeons and Dragons player, and has been trying to form a D&D campaign for a long time with many of her Menchville peers. Unfortunately, it has proven difficult for everyone to meet outside of school at the same time, so she developed a solution: Form a club!

Rimes decided to expand her club from just a D&D campaign to an immersing gaming experience- a place where members get to learn about and play all kinds of card and board games.

“It’s a club that meets after school on Thursdays to play board games, Dungeons and Dragons, card games like Magic: The Gathering, just nerdy games like that,” describes Rimes. “The game that we played at the first meeting before we’d started setting up for Dungeons and Dragons was this old game called Settlers of Catan, which is basically a strategy game like Risk.”

Rimes currently has a few loyal members, but hopes to grow the group.

“It’s fun, everyone’s really friendly, and its just a bunch of nerds playing games, so it’s a pretty welcoming environment,” says Rimes.

Club members Montel Hagley, Ethan Matthews, and Jane Underwood play Settlers of Catan.

Rimes asked social studies teacher Arram Dreyer to sponsor the club: “I’m a nerd, so I said yes. It’s a club where people can play any type of game, be it card games like Magic: the Gathering and Pokemon, or board games, or video games. Anyone is welcome!” exclaims Dreyer. “It allows kids to express their creativity and intelligence in different ways.”

The club meets Thursdays after school in room 207.
