WandaVision Episodes 1- 4 Spoiler Free Review

Whats Outside of Westview?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is back in a huge way with the new limited series, “WandaVision”, which is now streaming on Disney+. For those of you that are not familiar, Wanda and Vision, who are the two main characters of this show, are Wanda Maximoff who is the Marvel sorcerer Scarlett Witch, and her significant other, Vision, the robotic creation of Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man. The series is set after the events of the record breaking blockbuster, “Avengers Endgame” and takes place in the fictional town of Westview, New Jersey. But, the most important thing about this show is that it is incredibly strange. The shows first three episodes (only four have been released), draw inspiration from numerous sitcoms, with each episode taking place in a different era. For example, the first episode has comedy and writing based off of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” of the 1960s, while the second episode takes cues from 1960s series “Bewitched” and the third one draws from the 1970s show “The Brady Bunch”. And on the surface, this seems like Marvel’s way of branching out just because they already have the guaranteed audience to try risky stuff. But, as the series continues, viewers are starting to realize there is a much darker plot behind this perfect sitcom life being lived by Wanda and Vision.

It’s hard to describe this show without giving details from the plot to back up my points, but here goes: WandaVision is incredibly fun. If you take it at face value as a show paying homage to all your favorite sitcoms or if you see the darker undertone, it’s still a greatly entertaining watch. It’s got very witty dialogue and comedy and is helped by Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, who play Wanda and Vision respectively, who knock their roles out of the park. This show thrives in that it will entice the casual viewer while also being a great watch for the more diehard Marvel fans. It appears Marvel has another home run on their hands, and based off of how the first four episodes have gone, I think we are in for an insane finish!
