On Wednesday, April 13, 2022, the first outdoor meet of the track and field season took place. It was extremely hot reaching a high of 90℉. The competition was intense, but Menchville pulled through and showed the rest of the district what the Monarchs are made of.

The Lady Monarchs went to work and did what needed to be done. Senior sprinter, Taylor Wilson, received second place in both the 200m and 400m dash. Senior, Justice Broadnax, secured 5th place in the 100m dash. Madisyn Strange, junior, got second place in the 800m run, with a time of 2:41.83. In the 1600m run, Nouela Limon Duparcmeur received second place, and Elizbeth McElfresh received 5th place.  The girls 4x400m relay team got 3rd place.

The Male Monarchs also handled business and secured some wins for the team. Gabriel Cabral got first place, and Brandon Diongzon received second in the 3200m run. Sophomore Lauchnor Lamb placed 4th in the long jump, 18-11. Also freshman Charlie Wilson placed 5th in the long jump, 18-8. Running 5:12.77 in the 1600m run, Johnny Crain, junior, secured third place. Senior Josiah Graham placed 5th in the 400m dash. 

All the athletes that competed did amazing overall. The Monarch’s next meet is Apr 20, 2022, at Gloucester high school.
