The Monarch Sigma Chapter of the National Honor Society held its induction ceremony November 18, 2021 after school. It took place in person and socially distanced inside the auditorium.

Menchville’s AFJROTC presented the colors and the flag was honored by the playing of The National Anthem. Christina Majewicz, the Society’s sponsor, gave opening remarks and introduced the guest speakers Dr. Mary Hardesty, assistant principal, Mrs. Ashley Chassard, science teacher, and Mr. Brandon Traner, math teacher. They all gave powerful congratulatory speeches referencing the importance of the four pillars of the NHS: scholarship, service, character, and leadership.

The fifteen new inductees were announced and ushered to the front of the auditorium by Jake Williams and Grace Rivera. They included:

Lia Banks                                        Ian Calupitan

Cristos Campbell                            Joshua Candella

Ann Chappell Ellington                   Jordan Hester

Leianna Gallego                              Michael Mason

Chloe Robinson                               Theodore Rogar

Carsyn Sgambelluri                         Marcus Smith

Once everyone was announced, members of the NHS executive board, Avery Atkins, Megan Wilson, Sophie Adkins, and Reagan Zins, began to describe each of the four pillars that the Society represents while the inductees’ candles were being lit. Atkins, the president, led them in the National Honor Society pledge. Blowing out the candles made it official, marking the end of the ceremony.

Following the induction, there were more opportunities for proud parents to take pictures of their scholars in and around the auditorium. New members were also treated with cupcakes as they received their certificates and pins.
