Menchville’s Track and Field Lady Monarchs had a busy schedule this past weekend, competing in two meets in two days. The Lady Monarchs competed in a total of three relays and were named Meet Champions in all three relays they competed in.

The Lady Monarchs traveled to Richmond on Friday in order to compete in the Southern Track Classic.  The 4×400 sprint medley relay team took first place with a run time of 4 minutes, 10 seconds thus advancing them to the New Balance National Meet in June.  Jaelyn Windham, A’jahna Williams-Walker, Brittany Allen, and Ari Riddick are the team members.

However, the Lady Monarchs hadn’t finished yet.  Jaelyn Windham, Brittany Allen, Ari Riddick, and Morgan Merritt won the 4×4 relay with a time of 3 minutes, 55 seconds, beating their previous best time.   This outstanding relay placed them sixth in the state and also gained them another spot at the New Balance Nationals. Senior Morgan Merritt qualified for state in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2 minutes, 20 seconds.

Saturday the Monarchs track teams competed in the Glen Allen Invitational in the town of Glen Allen, Va.  Runners Windham, Merritt, Allen, and Riddick claimed first place in the 4 x 800 relay with a state qualifying time of 9 minutes, 50 seconds. The  Monarchs boys were also at the Glen Allen Invitational, competing in the 400-meter event.   James Aldridge took first place with a time of 49.92 seconds (state qualifying), while Andre Gillispie attained second place with a time of 50.68 seconds.
