After a weekend trip up north to Massachusetts, Menchville Senior and Varsity Softball player Katelyn Elliott discovered her future hopes and dreams of committing to play softball at Gordon College. We got the inside scoop as she shares her love for the game and the team in our Minute With a Monarch senior sports profile.

If you were not a softball player, what do you think you would do or play?

I think I would probably play tennis.

Why do you play softball?

I play softball because it is something more than a sport. [The team] is my family. It builds my character, challenges me, and certainly makes me stronger.

What are some of your future plans?

Hopefully playing softball at Gordon College in Massachusetts and getting a degree there to become a child/ young adult psychologist.

Who inspires you the most?

A softball player named Bella Picard. She played for Fordham University and unfortunately was injured really badly. [Bella] fractured her 5th cervical vertebrae, swelling her spine, which caused her whole right side of her body to be paralyzed. Though, today she is now striving to play again, constantly working on her paralysis.

If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

Bryce Harper would be a dream to meet.

Explain the best thing about your team this year.

I believe the team just has that dedication and drive to play.

What is a motivational quote or saying you live by?

A verse in the Bible that says, “Be still.” Psalms 46:10.

What do you believe is the best thing about Menchville?

The staff for sure. They’re all really there for you personally if you need them.

Name your favorite teacher here at Menchville.

Definitely Ms. Cooke.

What’s one thing you do when you need to relax?

I like to calm my mind with a nice walk or run.

What song(s) is on your currently playlist?

My go-to is “Show Me” by Big Wild.

What are some of your other hobbies?

Painting, other sports, Young Life, and even knitting are things I do on my free time.

What is your favorite food?

I’d die for some chicken alfredo.

Name a book you really enjoyed reading?

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert is a really good one.

Where is one place you would love to visit?

I would really love to take a trip to Bora Bora.

Name your most favorite movie ever?

The Divergent series is my top favorite.

What is a tv show you just cannot miss?

I’m pretty obsessed with this Netflix comedy series called No Tomorrow.

If you could be on any reality show, what do you think you would be good on?

I would like to be on this show on Netflix, Selling Sunset.

What is something people should know?

Everyone just really needs to know that every day is a new day- make a new friend, listen to some music, and do things you love. Live life!

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can actually sing.

Would you like to make a shout out to anyone?

Shoutout to God himself. He’s a real one!
