MHS Food Lions End Year With A Roar

Menchville High School has been declared a third place winner in Lead2Feed’s national contest after completeing a year of projects dedicated towards the Peninsula Food-Bank.  Menchville will receive $5,000 dollars for the Food-Bank, and a $2,000 Apple Gift Card to support technology in the school. The Monarchs are one of four schools in Virginia being awarded a prize.

While last years campaign involved projects driven primarily by individual homerooms; this years program focused on getting students and staff involved in collective projects such as the Backpack Program, Stop Hunger Now Program, Outdoor Garden, Bowl Project, and Menchville’s Got Talent.

“We did a lot more this year and were a lot more organized,” said sponsor and English teacher Allison Nuckols.

An assembly for involved students will be held within the next week, and a trip to the Food-Bank to present representative Donna Tighe with the monetary reward is also in the works.
