“Cable Girls,” a new Netflix original series, is a drama show created by Ramon Campos that premiered on April 28, 2017 with 8 episodes. The show is entirely in Spanish which adds an interesting element (subtitles are obviously available for use).

The shows time period is set in 1928, in  Madrid, Spain. The plot line has to do with a national telephone company opening its headquarters in the city center, resulting in hundreds of girls queuing up to get a job as a “cable girl.” The job, at the time, represents progress and modernity for women in Spain. Four beautiful girls coming from very different backgrounds win the job and start working as operators.

The main characters that are in the show are Lidia (Blanca Suarez,) Marge (Nadia de Santiago,) Carlota (Ana Fernandez,) Sara (Ana Polvorosa).

Because this show is in Spanish, it is very different from what most are used to watching. Throughout watching the series, the one thing that caught my eye is the style of dress the characters wear. They dress very classy, typical for the time period, and it makes them look very good. Dresses and skirts dominate most of the casts wardrobes, as that was the typical expectation for women clothes in the 1920’s. My favorite girl in the show is Lidia because in the show  she turns into a strong intelligent person as she deals with her problems.
