On March 29th Menchville’s freshmen class of 2020 will be holding the second annual Menchville’s Got Talent. This talent show is open to acts from all grade levels, but the event is organized and run by members of Menchville’s freshmen class. The event is also a fundraiser, and profits will go toward the 2017 Canstruction competition to benefit the Peninsula Food Bank.

Menchville’s Got Talent is the freshman class service project for Lead2Feed. Last year the class of 2019 was able to raise over $700 for Canstruction. The money raised from the show purchases cans to be used as building materials for structures entered in the Canstruction competition. After the event, these cans will be donated to Peninsula Food Bank.

The talent show features all sorts of acts including instrumentalists, singers, dancers, and bands. The acts are judged by a panel of students and teachers, which this year is set to include two freshmen, two seniors, and two teachers. Entrants will perform their acts, and the panel of judges will select the top 3 or 4 entries to be considered for the final prize. These final performers will have a chance to show the audience a short “recap” of their acts before a winner and runner-up are chosen by audience applause.

Menchville’s Got Talent is run by volunteers from Menchville’s class of 2020- acting as light and sound technicians, designers, hosts, and judges. Any freshmen students who wish to sign up to help should see English teacher Allison Nuckols in room 131 and sign up for her remind chain. These students should make sure to contact Nuckols before the after-school tech meeting on March 16th.

Students from all grade levels are eligible to enter the talent show. Auditions for Menchville’s Got Talent will be held the week before the show, on March 21st, by Nuckols and Activities Director Pete Mercier, along with the help of a few freshmen volunteers. Acts that are chosen in auditions will perform at the talent show for a shot at a $30 Visa gift card first prize (or $15 for runner-up).
