Both Menchville Boy’s and Girls’ Volleyball teams finished their season undefeated when the beat the Gloucester Dukes Thursday night in the Menchville gym.   The girl’s won 3-1, with sets of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-6 after losing the first set 20-25.  The boy’s edged the Dukes 3-2, winning the last 3 sets in a tense, come-from behind five set game.

The Lady Monarch’s lost a close first set to the Dukes, but easily handled the remaining sets.

On the boy’s side, the Dukes took the first two sets from the Monarchs with dominant defense at the net and some powerful offensive plays.  Still the sets were close, with the Monarchs falling 18-25 and 22-25.  In set 3, the Monarch’s trailed most of the set, but behind service by Brandon Mueller they pulled from a 21-23 deficit to win 25-23.

The final sets were close, but the Monarch’s held onto the lead through both.  Ian Fitzgerald helped maintain the Monarch momentum with some driving spikes into the Gloucester Defense.

The Menchville Volleyball Seniors played their last game in a tropical paradise.  Parent’s and fans turned the Menchville gym into an illusion of paradise complete with palm trees, a tiki hut, and grass skirts and tropical shirts for all the players.

The Penn-South Conference Tournament begins this week.
