Coach Ferhman Takes Over Wrestling Team

Robert Ferhman is the new wrestling coach at Menchville  and he made an effort to get together a team that he feels works hard and is dedicated. Coach Ferhman graduated from Paul V Moore High School in Central Square, New York. He furthered his education by getting his undergrad in Mathmatics at Utica College and his Master’s in Curriculum Instruction and Assessment at Jones International in Colorado. He worked as a seventh grade math teacher in New York. However, when he was offered a new opportunity he took it. In addition to coaching wrestling he also teaches math at Menchville.

What made you decide to come to Menchville High School and start coaching/teaching?
” There is a lot more support in administration here and everyone is on the same team. People are willing to help and are nice.”

What is your wrestling background?
” I started wrestling at about seven years old, and continued throughout Middle and High School. In college I took the opportunity to run cross country instead.”

What are your expectations or goals for this upcoming season?
” I would like to see three or four kids place in conference, and maybe in a few years send some to State.”

How have you been preparing the team?
” The team started pre-season workouts in September, some kids started after football. What they lack in experience they make up for in effort.”

Any input on the number of kids trying out and how it has increased since previous years? Any girls on the team?
” I made an effort to find kids that want to play the sport. I went to the cafeterias during lunch to find kids that may be interested, and it all worked out. There are two girls on the the team this year, Lexi Hendricks and Katelyn Elliott.”
