Boy’s Volleyball Team Wins PenSouth Conference 10 Tournament, Girls Take Second Place
The Menchville Girl’s Volleyball Team was unable to topple first seed and undefeated Warwick in the Conference Tournament Thursday night. They lost 3-0. Despite the loss, there are still reasons to celebrate. Siena Naotala and Lexie Hendricks were named to the All-Conference team. The team also advances to the Regional Tournament. They play Princess Anne High School on Monday at 5:00 at Princess Anne.
The Boy’s Volleyball Team rallied in the the 5th game to beat Gloucester 3-2 and win the PenSouth Conference 10 Volleyball Title. Menchville won the first set 25-17. Gloucester took an early lead in the game, but the Monarchs, after tying the game 4 different times, finally moved ahead on a point made by Noah Webster. They didn’t look back at that point – keeping the lead for the win.
Game 2 was a bit tighter, as both teams fought hard and volleyed well but Menchville finished with a 25-21 edge. The third game saw Gloucester jump to an early lead (at one point scoring 7 straight points) they held for a 25-18 win. Gloucester also managed to retain control of an exciting 4th game, winning 26-28.
In the final game, the Monarchs dug themselves into a hole that they slowly climbed out of. The Monarchs were down 7-13, Gloucester was within 3 points of winning the championship, when they rallied with 6 points to tie the game 13-13 and pull ahead for the 16-14 win.
Brandon Mueller, Noah Webster and Lucas Gray were named to the All-Conference team and Gray was announced as the PenSouth Conference 10 Volleyball Player of the Year.
The Monarch’s advance to Regionals and will play Princess Ann at 5:00 Monday at Green Run High School.
