Finally Some Great News- Disney Investor Day 2020
There is no denying that 2020 has ben rough, but, at least now as 2020 comes to a close, it is getting some redemption.
Disney Investor Day is an annual presentation, where show creators and writers at Disney announce the new shows and movies that they will release in the coming years. And this year, Disney Investor Day was crazier than ever. With the new streaming service, Disney Plus (which has already surpassed 137 MILLION subscribers), that will allow fans to watch all movies and shows from Disney owned companies like Star Wars and Marvel, Disney has shown that they are willing to get very creative in order to keep gaining new Disney Plus subscribers. So, without further ado, here are my top seven Disney Investor Day announcements!
7. Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers Reboot- My favorite comedian of all time, Emmy Award winning John Mulaney and Grammy Award winning comedian songwriter Andy Samberg, are teaming up to do a semi live action Chip N’ Dale reboot. I’m not exactly sure what to make of this, but I’m very excited to see how this turns out. Unfortunately Disney did not give us a release date, but I can say that this is by far the most intriguing announcement out of Investor Day sheerly because it is extremely strange. I don’t know if it will be good, but I know I’ll be watching.
6. Lightyear (June 17th, 2022)- As you will be able to tell from later on in this list, I am a HUGE Marvel fan, but that doesn’t mean I can’t give Pixar some love. “Toy Story” is widely considered to be an all time great movie, and it has stood the test of time and transcended generations. So, if you’re Disney, why not cash in on that “Toy Story” success with a “Toy Story” prequel. This animated prequel will explain the backstory of Buzz Lightyear. Not the toy, but the person who that toy is based on. And playing this real version of everyone’s favorite toy astronaut is Captain America himself, Chris Evans. We don’t know many details from the movie yet, but from what we DO know, it sounds like it will be pretty good.
5. Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi- Ewan McGregor’s fan favorite Obi-Wan Kenobi is returning to the Star Wars franchise in a highly anticipated limited series. Although this is not my favorite piece of news from the Investor Day, it might be the biggest, as it will take place ten years after Star Wars film Revenge of The Sith and will feature Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader. This is another series where details are limited, but due to Disney Plus’s success with other Star Wars shows like The Mandalorian, we can expect Obi-Wan Kenobi to be a homerun.
4. Star Wars The Bad Batch (2021)- If you are a Star Wars fan, I can almost guarantee you have seen The Clone Wars, a Star Wars series that has run 2008-2022 and has played a major role in events that happen in the movies. And, if you were a Clone Wars fan, than you must be very excited The Bad Batch, as it is the sequel to the long running Star Wars series. This show also takes place after Revenge of The Sith, and again, based on the popularity of Disney’s Star Wars shows, this show has high hopes to be great.
3. Wandavision (January 15th, 2021)- From the trailers and posters, we know this show will be weird. Scarlett Witch is one of the more intriguing characters in the MCU and her connection to magic can open the door to endless possibilities. And while we know more about this new show than we do about the others, we still really know nothing. Fans can make assumptions and create theories but for the most part, nothing is set in stone. All I know, is I am one of the many people who is anxiously awaiting the January 15th release date!
2. Loki (May 2021)- Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is considered an unsung hero in the MCU. His performance as the villain in Avengers is still one of the best in Marvel’s 20+ movie catalog and his turn to a good guy in the more recent Marvel movies has made him a fan favorite. So, getting this news that Loki will receive his own show is amazing news. As one can infer from the trailer, the show is going to be greatly exciting and have very high energy. Not to mention, Loki could also have huge implications in the MCU as it takes place after Avengers: Endgame, and will most likely take place over many different timelines. I cannot wait for this new show to hit Disney Plus!
1. Fantastic Four (July 8th, 2022)- I take back what I said about Obi-Wan… this is BY FAR the biggest piece of news. Marvel’s first family, and one of the most iconic super hero teams ever is finally making its appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Fantastic Four movie is set to be directed by Jon Watts, who directed the two most recent Spider-Man movies, which both received Rotten Tomatoes scores in the 90s. Although we don’t know any casting news yet, or any plot news, it is extremely exciting to get confirmation that the MCU is going to continue to grow. After the monumental events of Avengers: Endgame, it looked like Marvel might not be able to top that level of excitement. This, however, proves that the most exciting times for Marvel are still ahead!
