Winter Guitar Concert 2019
Menchville’s annual winter guitar concert was a treat for everyone who attended. On Thursday, December 12th, the Menchville Intermediate and Advanced Guitar classes, along with two soloists, performed for a crowd of Monarch students and family, who were all entertained by the brilliant sounds strummed by the talented guitarists.
Intermediate Ensemble began the night of music with five holiday classics. The performance started with the holiday staple, “Here Comes Santa Claus”, and featured other yuletide tunes like “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.”
Loud applause capped off the performance, and after an introduction by guitar teacher Pete Mercier, senior soloist Jay Richardson took to the stage, playing an old finger-style piece and captivating the crowd with every strum. His solo performance was followed by junior Andre Smith, who played another finger-style piece.
The Advanced Ensemble performed next, playing beautiful pieces including “Start” by Depapepe and “Africa” by Toto. Their renditions were received with glowing applause.
The guitar concert was a great experience for all who attended. The nice selections played by guitar students- and Mercier’s signature impromptu comedy- made for a cheerful celebration of the holidays.
