Archery Team scores First at Regional Tournament
The Menchville archery team took home the gold at the Newport News Regional tournament Friday, January 25. With an ending total score of 3221, the team improved their score from last year by 2 points and guaranteed themselves a shot at the State tournament in March.
In addition to their first place overall victory, four team members placed individually. In the high school boys division, Senior Tyrek Lee placed 2nd out of 31 with a score of 286, and Sophomore Dalton Westphal was not far behind in 3rd with a 281. In the high school girls division, Junior Courtney Hodge placed 1st out of 26 with a score of 275, and Freshman Kasey Twitchell placed 3rd with a 264.
The team will now prepare for their State tournament on March 9. During the 2018 season, the team advanced to Nationals after placing 3rd in the State tournament, and they qualified for the NASP World tournament, but were unable to attend due to graduation. With results so high at the Regional tournament this year, the team should be well on their way towards qualifying for Worlds again this year.
