Menchville’s Academic Team defeated Isle of Wight Academy in a taping for the Battle of the Brains TV show in Richmond on Tuesday, October 9th, with a final score of 275-220. Junior Laura Madler, the team captain, led the team with 140 points, followed by Junior Jay Richardson with 40 points, Senior Lily Ramirez with 30 points, and Junior Karan Singh with 20 points.

“It was really cool [to beat Isle of Wight Academy]. I’m excited to go on to the next match in February,” said Richardson.

The Isle of Wight match will air on January 5th, 2019 and will be shown on WTKR CBS 3 in Norfolk. Video will also be uploaded to the Battle of the Brains youtube channel.

The Menchville Academic Team also started off their VHSL Scholastic Bowl season 1-1 on Wednesday, October 10th, after a loss to Gloucester (with a final score of 205-170) and a win against Woodside (with a score of 285-55). In the first match, Madler led the team off with 60 points, Richardson scored 15 points, Junior Ashlyn Herring scored 10 points, and Singh scored 5 points. In the second match, Madler led the team with 80 points, Singh scored 60 points, Richardson scored 40 points, and Sophomore Shelby Woodward scored 15 points.
