Benji
Benji is a 2018 American family drama film written and directed by Brandon Camp, and produced by Blumhouse Productions. The film is a reboot of the 1974 film of the same name, which was directed by Camp’s father, Joe. It stars Gabriel Bateman and Darby Camp.
The cast for the movie includes: Gabriel Bateman (Carter), Darby Camp (Frankie), Will Rotthaar (Syd), Kiele Sanchez (Whitney), Angus Sampson (Titus). The young actor in the movie, Gabriel Bateman, did another great performance. Previously, Bateman has worked mainly in horror and thriller genres, so the family film is a bit of a break for him, but he manages to pull off the role well. I have seen his work in other movies and he is one of the better young actors I have seen.
I really liked this version of Benji. It is definitely a movie updated and crafted for modern audiences, but it still has a classic feel to it. This 2018 release feels like it arrived fresh from 1974, and that is what makes it a delight.
Benji was the best movie I have seen in a long time. It was it funny, realistic, heartwarming, and had just the perfect bit of sadness to make the plot whole. Just when you think it’s over and ending on a very somber note, the movie brings back the cheer. I was crying by the end, but the plot-twisting turn took away that sadness and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
The movie has some intense moments, but is still family friendly for young kids. This movie is perfect for your next family movie night.
