Menchville Students Attend Model UN Conference

The Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee gather at the end of the conference.

Menchville High Student recently participated in Model United Nations Conference at Old Dominion University.  Forty-two Menchville students and two teachers, Coach Tim Dragone and Coach Chris Chappell attended.  Overall, it was a great weekend and the students did very well.  Aaron Hodges and James Grenoble were awarded Best Delegate for representing China in the Security Council.  In addition to this, Drew Underwood was awarded Best Delegate representing Kamran Bağirov in The Autumn of Nations: The Last Days of the Soviet Union committee.

The conference was also educational for the students as they learned more about world affairs.  Senior Caroline Capland stated that she learned more about her country, the Democratic Republic of Congo.  “I learned more about the Boxer Rebellion'” said Junior Hunter Young.  In addition, Junior Cori Rossi  said ,” It helped me with my public speaking.”

Model UN is not just educational, but also fun and entertaining.  Junior Drew Underwood said that he found “Bonding with my fellow students” fun and Caroline Capland liked talking and hanging out with friends in the hotel after the conference.  Junior Andrew Warren said, “I would definitely want to do it again.”
