Menchville Rocks 2017 – Jazsmein and Quayvon
Sophomores Jazsmein Singleton and Quayvon Hilbert will be singing and telling the audience a story at Menchville Rocks this year. The pair will be singing three songs, “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars, “Must Be Love On The Brain” by Rihanna, and “Running,” which is an original song written by Hilbert. Said Hilbert on their performance, “The act is more telling a story than just singing.”
When asked about the meaning behind his new composition, “Running,” Hilbert said “I wrote the song specifically for this purpose- it’s like a couple saying how they’ll come running for each other no matter what; they’ll do anything for each other.” With this song and the other two selections, Singleton and Hilbert hope to connect with their audience and tell listeners a story about love.
This is the first time that either of the two will be performing at Menchville Rocks, but Singleton and Hilbert’s act almost did not happen. Originally Singleton and Hilbert had planned to enter the show as individual acts, but an interesting turn of events led them to join forces. Said Singleton, “We were supposed to be doing our own thing, but then Quayvon said ‘I’m not ready- can I come on with you?’ And I said ‘You’re lucky you’re my friend, Quayvon, you’re lucky you’re my friend.’” Now the two look back at the complication and laugh as they prepare for a performance together.
Singleton and Hilbert are eager to perform on February 16th at the 2017 Menchville Rocks. The duo said singing in front of a large crowd will be an “adrenaline rush,” and they can’t wait.
