This 2024-25 school year, a new principal has arrived at Menchville High School. Dr. Jason Hollar has taken the coveted duty of being Menchville’s principal. Though Dr. Hollar has made an immediate bright impact on the school, it took a long journey to become principal.
Originally, Dr. Hollar was the Athletic Trainer here at Menchville and taught 4 periods of Sports Medicine as a part of his duties. In fact, teaching in the classroom and being able to have a close relationship with students is something he misses. This ideal of having a connection with students is something he wishes to bring to Menchville from an administrative role. Dr. Hollar desires for a bridge to be gaped between students and administrators and for them to have an understanding of each other. This leads him to have a student’s perspective in mind when making a decision for the school. Dr. Hollar wants what is best for the students while having a comfortable learning environment.
Dr. Hollar is passionate about having the student feel comfortable and excited to learn. When he was in high school, he found that he learns best when the class is engaging and allows him to be excited to go to class. This is something that he’s going to stove for at Menchville. Dr. Hollar believes that if he can build relationships with teachers and support them as an administrator, then teachers can make classes more exciting and keep students engaged. In fact, one mistake that Dr. Hollar has seen that other administrators are always staying in their office and not engaging with teachers or students. As the principal, he wants to be as public as a figure and not a “big brother” type of administrator.
Dr. Hollar is more than just a principal, he also activities he enjoys to do outside of school as well. One think he finds important to do is to visit his family that lives in South Carolina. He makes sure to visit them as much due to him being the only one that lives in Virginia. A few other things he enjoys is cooking and traveling.
Some things Dr. Hollar has upcoming for our school is community events and more opportunities for students to get involved. One opportunity Dr. Hollar has planned is a principals advisory group. The principals advisory group is a group selected students have meetings him and provide student input on things around the school. This ties back into his idea of having a student perspective when making decisions.
We are excited to see what Dr. Hollar implements for Menchville and already see his positive impacts.
