Softball beats Woodside 7-5

The Menchville Softball team won  over Woodside 7-5 on Thursday.  The baseball team, playing Woodside on the opposite field, lost 10-8 on  a cold March afternoon.  This was the first game for both teams to count toward the Peninsula District Standings.

Senior Leslie Whiting  plays third base for the softball team. Whiting said going into the game, “I thought it was going to be a lot easier than it was…our defense and pitching was good but we didn’t really hit the ball that well, I was happy we won.” She celebrated the victory with dinner at Outback Steakhouse. Whiting went up to bat three times and hit an impressive 2 home-runs and a double.

Senior Mason McCallum went 2-4 at bat on the baseball field.   “I think we really knew it was going to be a tough game…those 4 errors we made defensively got them 4 runs, it was a big deciding factor…Woodside is probably the toughest team we’ll face this year, it brought a confidence how well we played against them hitting wise, it is definitely  our goal to go to states.”
